Oh My! I can’t believe how much time you’ve saved me!

If you’re caught in a time warp at work, we may not have any solutions that are as much fun as Dr Frank N. Furter’s house … but that’s okay, because you probably don’t have too many colleagues that look as good in their skimpies as Janet and Rocky! Everybody’s time warp is slightly different. Some hang a little bit to the left, others wear fluffy accessories, and some are impossibly clean. Online Collaboration Tools

What is the best online collaboration tool?

time saving software

This question comes up a lot and for good reason. Nearly every techno-savvy company is looking for time saving tools that will help their team collaborate and achieve more. Before we start spouting solutions, however, we have to ask some follow-up questions: “Collaborate on what? With whom? Using what mediums?” There are a number of different categories to consider. Each has a variety of collaborative solutions, some of which overlap:

  • Audio Conferencing
  • Co-Browsing
  • Collaborative Reviewing
  • Collaborative Writing
  • Document Sharing – Wikis
  • Event Scheduling
  • File Sharing
  • Instant Messaging
  • Mind Mapping
  • Multimedia Presentations
  • Screen Sharing
  • Video Conferencing
  • Web Conferencing
  • Web Presenting
  • Whiteboarding
  • WorkGrouping

Robin Good has put together a huge mind map list of tools in each of the above categories, complete with links to each tool. Check it out here. Use the +/- buttons (lower right) to view.

If you prefer the iPaper format, use this link instead.

Enjoy Free Music Efficiently

What’s this? A post on music? Have I slipped out of my “time saving” mode and wandered off into “cool stuff?” Nothing of the sort. There are many wonderful sites that do a great job of cataloging everything cool. Some of my favorites include MakeUseOf.com, Mashable.com, AppScout.com, and LifeHacker.com.

As an office worker who enjoys background music during the work day, I have latched onto Pandora as a wonderful time saving site and musical companion. She serves up music that I like (Smooth Jazz right now) by playing genres I have selected or specific artists that I have entered. With the flick of a mouse button, she will skip a song or remove it from my listening queue forever. With another click, I can change genres completely. I prefer instrumental music while I work, so I tend to alternate between Jazz and Classical stations. I’m a big fan of Jesse Cook these days.

Pandora

After you have used Pandora for a while, you’ll realize that you’re not hopping up to change CD’s or fuss with radio station buttons. Commercials, of course, are a thing of the past. These are benefits that a acrue to listeners of XM or Serius radio too, but I get them for free and Pandora learns more about me every day, customizing my listening experience.

Pandora also offers a mobile version.
